Abstract
PD can easily be misdiagnosed, like it was for my grandfather. Parkinson’s disease (PD) is the second most common neurodegenerative disease. The diagnosis of PD is made clinically based on symptomatology, clinical expertise, and response to treatment. The accuracy of the clinical symptom-based diagnosis is thought to be around 75-90%when compared to a pathologic autopsy confirmation.
I wanted to know why PD is misdiagnosed and whether utilizing biomarkers in the diagnosis would improve diagnostic accuracy?
