Dr. Mabel Andrews practiced as an Osteopathic Doctor for 43 years in Perry, Iowa. This collection shows her medical bag along with items stored in the bag. There are also a few photographs of her and her family and a short biographical sketch of Dr. Andrew's life.
Mabel Andrews was born on January 10, 1875 to Charles and Mary Andrews. She grew up on a farm Southwest of Perry, IA in Lincoln Township. As a small child, Mabel suffered from a polio attack which left one leg affected for the rest of her life.
As a young adult, she taught at a small school in order to raise money to go to medical school. She attended the Los Angeles College of Osteopathy and graduated in 1909. She moved back to Perry, IA and opened her own Osteopathic Practice where she practiced for the next 43 years.
"Dr. Mabel" as she was known to her community passed away on October 27, 1966 at the age of 91. Her family donated these items in her honor.
