The Green Remedy:The Potential of Parsley in Fighting against Radiation-Resistant Cancers

Description

Cancer is one of the leading causes of death globally and possess near universal infamy. While treatment and the subsequent prognosis of cancer has improved significantly over past decades, there is still considerable progress that needs to be made. One of the most impactful developments in cancer treatment was the utilization of radiation therapy. However, radiation therapy is not an all-encompassing treatment for cancer, as some cancers are resistant to its effects. Certain pharmacological developments in recent years aim at sensitizing radiation resistant cancers to radiation therapy, to allow these cancers to be treated more effectively and improve prognosis for those suffering from them. However, while pharmaceutical interventions are certainly possible, parsley, a common herb used in many diets around the world, has been found to have potent anti-cancer properties. Preliminary data and recent studies suggest that parsley is in fact capable of sensitizing radiation resistant cancers to radiation therapy. Despite these developments, a comprehensive review of the role that parsley plays in treating radiation resistant cancer has yet to been conducted. Therefore, this review aims to explore this topic to provide a better understanding of parsley’s potential role in cancer treatment to future research efforts. Improving our understanding of this area will serve to elevate the quality of care that patients with radiation resistant cancers can receive, thus improving patient outcomes and mitigating against shortfalls in the treatment of certain cancers.
