Abstract
Problem Statement
ABIs are sudden, devastating and life altering events. Especially in the younger population, these patients and their families are often given an initial acute level of care and rehabilitation before being sent back into society with little guidance on what the rest of their life may entail. Expanding and emphasizing lifelong education, self-advocacy, and the necessary resources for them can greatly improve their outcomes.
Objectives
1. Review the current rehab protocols and recommendations for the acute phase
2.Identify the root causes of their increased secondary morbidity and mortality
3. Bring more awareness to providers AND patients/ families to create a better and more accountable long-term system as their wants and needs change
