Abstract
Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is one of the most common neurodevelopmental disorders in children and adolescents. While stimulant medications are a well-established cornerstone of treatment, many families explore complementary approaches to improve daily functioning, emotional regulation, and overall well-being. As a former Child Life Specialist volunteer, I had the privilege of supporting children with ADHD in hospital settings, having experiences that sparked my interest in holistic and accessible strategies for care.
This research investigates how yoga practice can be utilized as an adjunctive treatment for ADHD in childhood, with a focus on identifying physiological benefits that providers can confidently share with families. By evaluating current literature and clinical guidance, the goal is to create practical resources such as a presentation and infographic for family medicine and psychiatric providers who manage ADHD daily. These tools aim to support conversations about integrating yoga into treatment plans, offering families additional, non-pharmacologic options alongside traditional therapies.
Goal of researching local programs for children’s yoga around the Des Moines, Iowa area, as well as online yoga programs children can complete at home.
