Abstract

Ayurvedic medicine is one of the oldest medical systems in the world, originating in the Indian subcontinent more than 3,000 years ago and emphasizing a holistic approach to health using plant products, minerals, and lifestyle practices. Among its many therapeutic approaches, herbal remedies such as turmeric, ginger, and shilajit are commonly used to prevent and manage a variety of health conditions.

Despite its long history and continued use, there remains a significant gap in provider awareness and understanding Ayurvedic medicine. Many patients, particularly those from South Asian backgrounds use herbal remedies alongside conventional treatments, yet healthcare providers may not routinely ask about these products during the clinical encounters. This lack of awareness can lead to missed opportunities to identify potential herb-drug interactions, adverse effects, and safety concerns.

This topic holds personal and professional significance because Ayurvedic medicine is widely used within communities such as the Nepali population, where traditional remedies are often integrated into everyday health practices. This project aims to bridge the knowledge gap between traditional medicine and modern practice.
