Abstract
This presentation is intended to inform current and future clinicians about emerging technologies within the fields of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Genetics.
The foundational principles of medicine are grounded in the patient-provider interaction, along with the observation & treatment of signs and symptoms. Over time the field evolved to evidence-based practice, where data, peer-reviewed research, and clinical trials guided treatments and therapies.
Now, through the advent of AI, a new era of medicine is upon us. Massive and ever-expanding data sets, coupled with algorithmic pattern recognition allows for new discovery and treatment. Whole genome sequencing is becoming more affordable, allowing for real-time actionable prescription advising based on patient’s genome. Discovery of new biomarkers shifts therapies to proactive, instead of reactive. De novo proteins are being designed based on desired function and structure. In silico trials and creating a patient’s digital twin allow for simulations of therapies before real therapies start.
AI is rapidly integrating and changing the practice of medicine. As this transformation accelerates, I want to encourage clinicians to stay at the forefront. We must understand these new technologies, and be ready to implement them into our current or future practices.
