Ehlers Danlos Syndrome: The Importance of Early Diagnosis and Current Treatment Options

Abstract

This project and literature review focused on the hypermobile subtype of Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (hEDS). Both qualitative and quantitative studies were included, with an exclusion criterion that filtered out articles published prior to 2019 to ensure relevance and recency. Searches were conducted using PubMed and Google Scholar, combining "Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome" with keywords such as complications, diagnosis, prevention and control, rehabilitation, therapy, and pain management. Articles were selected based on their relevance to the diagnostic criteria, current treatment options, and patient outcomes for hEDS. The goal was to provide a comprehensive, entry-level overview of the current state of knowledge regarding hEDS and to dispel the common misconception that there are no treatments—thereby challenging the notion that diagnosis or recognition holds little value.
